Aze Faison is a former drug dealer and a ninth grade dropout who earned more than $100,000 a week selling cocaine in Harlem, New York, during the peak of America’s “War on Drugs”, between 1983-1990. His legacy has been praised by several hip-hop artists in their lyrics, and his life was the basis for the film Paid in Full starring Mekhi Phifer, Wood Harris, and Cam’ron and produced by Damon Dash’s Roc-A-Fella Films.
AZ BIO
Azie (pronounced “AZ”) Faison Jr. was born in the Bronx, New York on November 10, 1964. A fire destroyed his tenement in 1970, forcing the family to relocate to the famed Sugar Hill section of Harlem, New York.
While childhood friend Rich Porter began dealing drugs as early as 12 years old, Faison worked in a neighborhood dry cleaners. Faison maintains that the movie Scarface strongly influenced his decision to become a drug dealer. In that same year, a Dominican cocaine supplier approached Azie about selling the drug. By the time he turned 19, Faison became a cocaine wholesaler of sorts in his Harlem district, and regularly earned from $40,000 - $100,000 a week from his operations. In 1987, an attempt to rob Faisons stash house (place where he kept drugs or money) left 3 people dead and 3 seriously injured.
He himself was shot seven times in the robbery attempt, but survived and left the drug game to embark on a mission to disavow his former life and steer youth away from the path he once chose. In 1989, he formed a rap group called MobStyle. Following the tragic murders of his friend Rich Porter and his little brother Donnell Porter in 1990, Faison began working on a movie about his life which eventually became Paid in Full which debuted in 2002. Around the same time, he teamed up with street documentarian Troy Reed to produce the much-acclaimed documentary about his life called Game Over.

BBTEK’s artistic vision has contributed to the reggaeton music industry. His new album, Billete de Cien, will be released in 2009. to include being the founder and executive producer of Rican Squad Records (RSR). Two of his singles, Atrevida and Dejala Que Baile quickly made their way to the Top 10 charts. The video for his single, Maquinealo, hit the broadcasting scene in Puerto Rico, Long Island, and the Dominican Republic.
While performing live in Puerto Rico , in April of 2004, he caught the eye of Warner Latin executives who quickly made a slot for him on the upcoming The Crew 4 Tour. While on tour, BBTEK performed dates in New York, San Juan, Lajas, Aguada, and San Sebastian Puerto Rico and New York to jam-packed audiences.
As BBTEK’s reputation flourished within the reggaeton community, he began to receive offers to collaborate with various artists. Adding to his achievements, BBTEK’s song Maquinealo was featured in the album Reggeatton Face Off <http://www.amazon.com/Reggaeton-Face-Off-Various-Artists/dp/B000F3AJYE> and his song Atrevida made its debut on Buzz, Vol. 2 <http://www.amazon.com/Buzz-Vol-2-Various-Artists/dp/B000H0M44I> . In addition, his song Mirala Como Baila was selected for inclusion on Miguel Angel Rivera’s album, El Viejo Mamito.

Vibe magazine, the best-known and most mainstream of the magazines aimed at the hip-hop generation, is folding immediately after 16 years, Steve Aaron, Vibe Media Group’s chief executive officer, announced on Tuesday. Later in the day, Vibe founder Quincy Jones said, “I’m trying to buy my magazine back now,” according to Adrienne Samuels Gibbs of Ebony magazine.
“Jones told EbonyJet.com just moments ago during a telephone call to Jones’ London abode”‘ that, “They just messed my magazine all up, but I’m gonna get it back. You better believe it, I’m going to take it online because print and all that stuff is over” Gibbs wrote.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share some tough news, VMG is closing down effective today, June 30 due to lack of additional financial investments,” Aaron told staffers in a memo.

The legendary Apollo Theater will honor fallen icon Michael Jackson with a special series of events commemorating his life. The first event begins on Tuesday (June 30). The venue will host a public tribute allowing fans to hear DJs spinning Michael’s music, leave memorabilia, and write sympathy messages on a special mural wall located outside the property. Reverend Al Sharpton will start the event with a eulogy at 2PM. Fans will be allowed access in 600-person cycles. Apollo CEO Jonelle Procope expects the gathering to be emotional, but hopes the visible representation of Michael’s accolades with assist the community in healing. “Michael first performed at the Apollo in the late 1960s with his brothers and won Amateur Night, which catapulted their career as the Jackson 5. We will always remember Michael in our hearts as part of the Apollo’s family of artists and a true Apollo legend,” Procope told AllHipHop.com in a statement. Today, those in the downtown Los Angeles areacan visit the Grammy Museum (800 W Olympic Blvd) to see the redesigned “Michael Jackson: HIStyle” exhibit.

A U.S. Navy destroyer is currently tailing a N. Korea ship off the coast of China. The ship is believed to be transporting missiles.
The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to stop ships and inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has let it be known that if their ship is stopped by the U.S. it will consider that action an act of of war.
“If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will… wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all,” the official Korean Central News Agency said.
North Koreans don’t have long range missiles that can reach the U.S. So NKorea has announced plans to invade and capture Hawaii on the 4th of July in order to use Hawaii as its base from which to launch attacks against the U.S.
You can see by the map how close Hawaii is to California. As you can imagine, the residents of Hawaii are more than a little worried.
